The moral meaning and impact of the short story “Sinigang” on me as a 21st Century Learner

Marie Aubrey J. Villaceran wrote the short story. This chapter describes how Liza, the main character, dealt with her father’s continued affair with Sylvia, who resulted in the birth of a son, Lem.

This short novella, ‘Sinigang,’ describes what many Filipino households are going through. Unfortunately, many people may relate to this narrative, particularly those who have been involved in a broken family as a result of an affair or other issues. This story is portrayed in real-life teachings, and such lessons are actually needed and necessary in our daily lives.

Moral Values

•The first lesson that has stuck with me is that everyone makes mistakes because we are all imperfect, but it isn’t an excuse because we can choose not to make them. They claim that we can learn from our mistakes and that the lessons we’ve learnt can be applied to our life so that we don’t make the same mistakes again. Yes, we are imperfect and make mistakes, but we must accept responsibility for our actions since we decided to do so. Using the lines ‘No one is perfect,’ ‘I’m just a person,’ and ‘We all make errors,’ as a justification for what you did will not suffice because we have a choice, and we’re responsible for it.

•The second lesson teaches the value of forgiveness. Forgiving others is easier to say than it is to accomplish. What people have done to us will always leave an impact on our minds, particularly our hearts, but when we forgive, we also forgive ourselves, for we are all human after all.

•The third lesson emphasizes the value of faithfulness and returns to the goal of marriage. It is a step above than loyalty because it is both trustworthy and just. Being loyal is easy, but being faithful is a different story.” So if someone is loyal to his partner, no matter what temptation he faces, he will always do the right thing. It’s not enough that we know what’s right.
